Which is correct, ESL, EFL or EAL?

ESL refers to those who live in the same country, e.g. French Canadians learn ESL.

EFL refers to those who life in a different country, e.g. Chinese learn EFL.

EAL means English as Additional Language. In this respect, the acronym ESL is not quite universal and is not suitable for all learners because some students learn English as a third or fourth language (or fifth, etc.), not as a second language.

All the above acronyms should be applied to specific situations.
